In its constant endeavor to support the most at-risk and elderly people with very low incomes, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in 2025 has made the R700 Grant available. More precisely, this grant is meant to buy the straining living costs a little time and to help individuals and families by making up the difference between the R370 SRD Grant and Old Age or Disability Grants.Discover everything related to the SASSA R700 Grant 2025 – eligibility, application process, and disbursement of payments.
R700 Grant’s Aim
With the launch of the R700 Grant the government has once again stepped one move nearer to its extended social relief scheme, which is the basic support for the unemployed, informal workers, and households with no incomes. The DSD, along with SASSA, has decided to finance the grant temporarily while the inflation rate keeps increasing and the high unemployment rate affects millions. The negotiations for a permanent Basic Income Grant are still in progress which is why the grant is being offered as a temporary relief measure. It is important to note that this grant will not replace any of the existing social grants but rather it will enhance the support for those who do not qualify for the SRD or have not applied for any other SASSA benefits.
